SMB (Société minière de Boké) and the SMB-Winning Consortium are pleased announce their participation in Africa's largest annual mining industry event: Mining Indaba, taking place from February 3 to 6, 2025 in Cape Town, South Africa. A high-profile delegation will be on hand to share their vision of developments in the mining sector, as the company celebrates its tenth anniversary.

Sharing experience, knowledge and ambition

Mining Indaba offers a unique platform to discuss trends and prospects in the African mining industry. The event enables the SMB-Winning Consortium to highlight its solid expertise, its achievements in West Africa and its strategy for the continent.

Thanks to its strong industrial capacity, the consortium is positioned as one of the world's leading bauxite producers and exporters. With 4,000 employees at SMB and over 10,000 at the consortium, the group represents a considerable economic weight in the region, generating thousands of direct and indirect jobs, and making a significant contribution to Guinean GDP.

The Group also stands out for the development of strategic infrastructure, notably a 125-kilometer rail line between the Santou II and Houda plateaus and the Dapilon river port. These investments make a significant contribution to optimizing logistics, while at the same time stimulating CSR initiatives, supporting local development, training and the creation of sustainable jobs. It is with this in mind that the company is participating in this event, reaffirming its commitment to the economic and social development of Guinea and Africa.

Frédéric BOUZIGUES - Managing Director of SMB, said: "In the space of a decade, SMB has established itself as the leading bauxite exporter in Guinea, helping to make the country the world leader in this sector. This success is a testament to our vision, our commitment and the confidence of our partners. Presenting our story at Mining Indaba is a key opportunity to share this success and affirm our role in developing shared prosperity in Africa."

On February 3 at 4:30 pm, Ismaël Diakité, High Representative of the SMB-Winning Consortium, will share his vision on the challenges and opportunities linked to local resource transformation, value creation and the impact of ESG initiatives in the African mining sector. Using the example of the SMB-Winning Consortium, he will highlight how, in ten years, Guinea has gone from being a bauxite exporter to a key player in African mining development.

Words from Ismaël DIAKITÉ, High Representative of the SMB-Winning Consortium

"Africa's mining boom relies not just on resource extraction, but on local processing and community inclusion. In ten years, the SMB-Winning Consortium has proved that an integrated, partnership-based approach can not only make Guinea a world leader in the mining industry, but can also help it become a world leader in the mining sector. In ten years, the SMB-Winning Consortium has proven that an integrated and partnership-based approach can not only position Guinea as a global leader in bauxite but also lay the foundation for a more sustainable and equitable mining future for the continent."
