Creating safer and healthier working environments is an increasing priority for the global mining industry, particularly as regulatory requirements tighten and operating conditions become more complex. These themes were unpacked when Booyco Engineering MD Brenton Spies was interviewed by Mining Weekly ahead of the Investing in African Mining Indaba in Cape Town.

Spies discussed how Booyco Engineering works closely with mining companies to improve operator health and safety, and why strong partnerships with customers and industry stakeholders are essential in today’s demanding regulatory and operational climate. He reflected on the challenges of achieving ISO 23875 compliance in harsh mining environments and how collaboration with equipment original-equipment manufacturers and mine operators helps to ensure reliable air quality and effective operator protection.

The conversation also focused on the role of innovation driven by collaboration, including Booyco Engineering’s partnerships with global technology leaders such as Sy-Klone, which have contributed to advances in environmental control within mining cabs. Spies further explained how real-time air-quality and exposure data is being used in partnership with clients to support proactive health management and strengthen environmental, social and governance reporting.

Spies concluded the conversation by outlining how Booyco Engineering positions itself as a long-term partner – going beyond the supply of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems to help mines to enhance equipment reliability, reduce downtime and improve overall operational performance.
