With many openpit mines in Southern Africa reaching maturity, the shift toward underground mining will shape opportunities soon for mining contracting company Murray & Roberts Cementation, says new business executive Graham Chamberlain.

The underground mining specialist offers invaluable insights from earlier stages of development. Over the decades, the company has found that this early engagement with clients provides many vital opportunities to optimise their ideas and plans, he adds.

“Especially in the shaft sinking phase – which is highly capital intensive – the devil is in the detail, and there are many aspects to consider when working to achieve a streamlined and cost-effective process.”

The company recently attained a significant milestone when it achieved eight-million fatality-free shifts.  Chamberlain shares some of the key practices or innovations that have helped it maintain such a strong safety record.

With the Murray & Roberts Training Academy at Bentley Park noted as a benchmark in the industry, Chamberlain lauds the role this academy plays in supporting the safety and productivity of its projects.

While every project presents unique challenges, Murray & Roberts Cementation tailors its solutions and ensures collaboration with its customers to meet their specific needs effectively.
