Understanding the underground a key focus

ON DISPLAY Software solutions offered by global mining technology supplier Seequent will be on display at this year’s Investing in African Mining Indaba
TEAM FREQUENT The Seequent team will again be attending this years Mining Indaba to highlight mining focused technologies
As a longstanding participant in the yearly Investing in African Mining Indaba, and with a long history of working with clients in Africa, subsurface software company Seequent says one of the most critical components for more effective, efficient and environmentally responsible mining is a better understanding of the underground environment.
Software solutions can assist mining companies in unlocking the value of subsurface data to transform exploration and mine performance using actionable geoscience intelligence, notes Seequent customer success manager Tshego Majane.
Majane says, globally, eight out of ten of the world’s top mining companies use Seequent software alongside thousands of midtier and junior miners.
“In 2023, users of our three-dimensional (3D) modelling software Leapfrog produced nearly 200 000 new geological models, providing crucial insights for mining, civil, energy and environmental projects.”
For example, geotechnical site investigation services provider Kenyan Geological Authority (KGA) has used Seequent geophysics modelling software Oasis montaj to digitise and visualise extensive historical data, uncovering important subsurface details regarding mineral resources, groundwater availability and geothermal potential.
This has enabled KGA to move beyond decades-old maps to create an updated, detailed inventory of Kenya’s natural resources.
In the Spotlight
Seequent will showcase its geological modelling software Leapfrog – enabling clients to rapidly integrate, communicate and interpret geological data with modern 3D modelling capabilities – at this year’s Mining Indaba.
“Leapfrog offers an intuitive interface crafted for the geologist and logical workflows so that users can learn the fundamentals quickly, allowing [for] faster modelling and making more time for scientific analysis possible,” explains Majane.
Leapfrog also allows for the rapid visualisation of an area in 3D, resulting in even complex data being clarified and understood.
Meanwhile, as an exhibitor at this year’s Investing in African Mining Indaba, Seequent looks forward to an event that fulfills a multitude of objectives.
