Project Description
The project aims to commercialise the natural gas resources of Alaska’s North Slope by converting the existing natural gas supply to LNG for export and providing gas for users in the state of Alaska. The facilities will include:

∙ a new gas treatment plant;

∙ a 1.6-km-long, 152-cm-diameter Prudhoe Bay Unit gas transmission line;

∙ a 100-km-long, 81-cm-diameter Point Thomson Unit gas transmission line;

∙ a 1 300-km-long, 107-cm-diameter natural gas pipeline and associated aboveground facilities, including eight compressor stations and a heater station; and

∙ a 20-million-metric-ton-a-year liquefaction facility, including an LNG plant and marine terminal.

The project will have an average inlet design capacity of up to 3.7-billion standard cubic feet a day and a peak capacity of 3.9-billion standard cubic feet a day.

A Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) environmental-impact statement (EIS) on the project has determined that the construction and operation will result in temporary, long-term and permanent impacts on the environment. While most impacts will not be significant or will be reduced to less than significant levels with the implementation of proposed or recommended avoidance, minimisation and mitigation measures, some impacts will be adverse and significant.
