PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Critical minerals company Albemarle has awarded a near A$200-million contract to engineering company Monadelphous Group as part of the expansion of the Kemerton lithium hydroxide plant in Western Australia.

The contract includes front-end pyromet structural, mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation works associated with two new lithium processing trains.

Operating at full capacity, Kemerton will have expanded capacity with four processing trains to produce up to 100 000 t/y of lithium hydroxide, supporting the manufacturing of an estimated 2.4-million electric vehicles yearly.

“We are very pleased to have Monadelphous back onboard for the construction of processing trains 3 and 4,” said Albemarle VP for capital projects Australia Josh Rowan.

“Their ability to deliver the works safely and at schedule is critical to the project’s success. Monadelphous was also recently awarded long-term maintenance and sustaining capital projects contracts for Albemarle’s Kemerton operations.”
