Location
Between the municipalities of Caeté and Santa Bárbara, about 40 km from Belo Horizonte, in Brazil.

Vale.

Project Description
The proposed project involves the construction of a mine, a processing plant and an 8 km rail branch to connect to the Vitória a Minas Railroad. Envisaged is the production of about 14-million tons of sinter feed a year at natural humidity – therefore, without the use of water in the processing of iron-ore. This production process eliminates the need for dams.

Vale has said the project does not interfere with the limits of Serra do Gandarela National Park.

The project has a 29-year mine life.

Potential Job Creation
The project is expected to create about 2 600 temporary jobs at the peak of construction. During the operation phase, about 740 direct jobs will be created, in addition to an estimated 2 100 indirect and induced jobs. Local labour will be prioritised.

The project cost is estimated at $1.3-billion.

Planned Start/End Date
Vale expects to get an installation permit by early 2028 and start production by about 2030.
