Barminco secures Goldrush underground mining contract in the US
Australian mining services provider Perenti’s underground mining business, Barminco, has secured its first underground mining contract in the US, winning a deal with Nevada Gold Mines (NGM) for the Goldrush project.
The contract, valued at about A$120-million, involves underground development and ground support services over a 36-month period, starting in February. Barminco will use idle fleet equipment for the project, eliminating the need for additional growth capital for the initial scope of work.
NGM, a joint venture between Barrick Gold (61.5%) and Newmont (38.5%), was formed in 2019 through the consolidation of the two mining giants’ Nevada assets. It represents the world’s largest gold-producing complex, comprising ten underground mines and 12 surface mines.
The Goldrush project is a new underground development, targeting production of 400 000 oz/y by 2028, with a projected mine life of 24 years.
Perenti MD and CEO Mark Norwell described the contract win as a significant achievement for Barminco’s North American team. “Securing the Goldrush underground project is an excellent achievement by our Barminco North America team."
Fellow Perenti business, Swick has operated in the US since 2009.
Perenti president of contract mining Gabrielle Iwanow highlighted the importance of the North American market in the company’s growth strategy. “The North American market is the largest hard rock, underground mining market in the world and this is Barminco’s first project in the US. This win represents a milestone achievement for Barminco and our contract mining team as we execute our growth strategy."
