Rare earths miner Iluka Resources on Friday announced the retirement of chairperson and nonexecutive director Rob Cole.

This follows an earlier announcement in November that Cole had taken temporary leave owing to health concerns. The company said that Cole's health had not permitted his return to duties, leading to his decision to step down from his board roles.

Andrea Sutton, who has been serving as acting chair since November, will continue in this capacity until the board appoints a permanent chairperson.

Cole joined Iluka’s board in March 2018 and became chairperson in April 2022. During his tenure, he played a key role in guiding the company through significant transitions, including the demergers of Deterra Royalties and Sierra Rutile and Iluka’s diversification into rare earths.

Sutton acknowledged Cole's leadership, stating, “His personal contribution to this commitment has been unwavering. On behalf of the board, I thank Rob for his outstanding leadership and service to the company.”
