TSX- and JSE-listed Eastern Platinum (Eastplats) has advised shareholders of a cybersecurity incident affecting its internal IT systems.

Eastplats took immediate containment measures to protect its network and data once it detected the breach, and has since been working with cybersecurity experts to thoroughly investigate the incident’s scope and undertake remedial action.

Importantly, the company’s business operations have remained undisrupted.

The incident had certain files related to Eastplats’ internal affairs disclosed without authorisation. The company is reviewing these files to ensure ongoing compliance with its legal obligations and to safeguard its commercial interests.

The company is focused on enhancing its data security and systems, with the incident having been reported to the appropriate authorities as well.

Eastplats owns a number of platinum group metal and chrome assets in South Africa.
