ELB Engineering Services (Pty) Ltd (ELB) is excited to announce the successful commissioning of the 200t/h Dense Media Separation (DMS) plant at Sedibeng Iron Ore (SIO), near Postmasburg in the Northern Cape.
The DMS plant operates on both lumpy and fine feed, which is batch-fed into the plant and has been designed to produce a high grade product (in excess of 65% Fe) from both A and B grade feed material. Iron ore tailings is stockpiled and slimes is de-gritted and thickened in a high rate thickener to maximise water recovery. The high density slimes, with relative densities over 2 being achieved, is pumped to a slimes holding dam.
The Sedibeng project has also allowed ELB the opportunity to test and implement the latest data capturing and plant optimisation technology. Together with their partners, ELB have created a state of the art machine learning system which drives the backbone of the data coming from the array of sensors within the DMS.
Over time, the plant will generate enough data for the operators to predict maintenance schedules, anticipate breakdowns before they happen and control the entire operation at its optimal performance. This is ELB’s answer to industry 4.0.
