Project description
The company is undertaking the development, finance and construction of a 2,8 million t/y alumina refinery. In addition to the greenfield refinery there are plans to develop, finance and construct a coal-fired power plant and water-supply dam as well as upgrade existing railway and port infrastructure to serve the new refinery.
The refinery is being designed to be one of the lowest-cost refineries in the world.

$2-billion.
Duration
It is estimated that it will take four years to complete construction of the refinery. This schedule includes 36 months to construct the first processing line and an additional 12 months for completion of the second processing line.
Breakdown of main contracts
Hatch and Global Alumina’s subsidiary, Aluminpro, were responsible for the design and basic engineering of the refinery, which is complete. Technip has been selected as the prime refinery EPC contractor. Technip has signed an agreement with CCC to serve as erection contractor.

Latest developments
The negotiations to form a joint venture to develop and operate the company's alumina refinery project with the BHP Billiton (BHPB) group, Dubai Aluminium Company (Dubal) and Mubadala Development Company are at an advanced stage. The agreements will then be subject to the approval of the management of BHPB and the boards of the company, Dubal and Mubadala.
