PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Brendan Harris has taken the helm at copper miner Sandfire Resources, starting his tenure as CEO and MD.

Harris was appointed as head of Sandfire in November last year, following the shock exit of founding CEO Karl Simich at the end of September 2022.

“I feel privileged to be joining the Sandfire team at such an exciting time. I also feel fortunate to be stepping into an organisation that has continued to perform through a period of transition and would like to thank Jason Grace, our COO, for his dedicated leadership during this period,” Harris said on Monday.

“I am passionate about copper's role in the electrification and decarbonisation of the global economy, and believe Sandfire holds a very attractive portfolio of copper assets that will support the green energy transition. I look forward to continuing the excellent work the team has underway to establish the organisation as a truly sustainable, global copper producer of significance, while building positive relationships with our surrounding communities and delivering tangible value to all stakeholders,” he added.

Harris, an exploration geologist, has held senior executive roles with diversified miners BHP and South32, and has been a member of South32’s executive management team since its demerger from BHP in 2015 and played a key role in the company’s establishment as its inaugural CFO.
