Aim-listed Sylvania Platinum has posted a 71% quarter-on-quarter increase in earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda) to $22-million for the quarter ended September 30 – the first quarter of the group's 2026 financial year.

The higher Ebitda was mainly as a result of a 49% quarter-on-quarter increase in revenue on the back of a 20% increase in the average basket price for platinum, palladium, rhodium and gold (4E) platinum group metals and a 16% increase in production, but offset by a 21% increase in direct costs.

"The company had an impressive start to the 2026 financial year with quarterly production recording 24 522 oz of 4E from the Sylvania Dump Operations. The average 4E gross basket price increased by 20% in dollar terms and 16% in rand terms, which, alongside the increase in production ounces, saw an improved 4E revenue performance," CEO Jaco Prinsloo comments.

The group commissioned its Thaba joint venture project during the September quarter, with first chrome and PGM production achieved during the quarter. The first products were dispatched to offtakers post period-end.
