The Phase 1, 2, and 3 concentrators at the Kamoa-Kakula copper complex in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have set a new monthly production record in November, with TSX- and OTCQX-listed Ivanhoe Mines reporting combined production of 45 019 t of copper in concentrate.

The concentrators processed 1.2-million tonnes of ore, achieving an average feed grade of 4.58% copper. Total copper production from Kamoa-Kakula for the year to November 30 now stands at 390 061 t.

The recently commissioned Phase 3 concentrator performed well, achieving an average recovery rate of 85.3% in November, close to its design target of 86%. On November 26, it set a record with a 90% recovery rate over a 24-hour period.

“Kamoa-Kakula’s production continues to accelerate into year-end, following the ramp-up of the Phase 3 concentrator earlier this quarter. November marked another significant milestone with a 10% month-on-month increase in copper production, taking the annualised production rate to [about] 550 000 t of copper.”

“There is much more copper to come from this world-class mining district as we advance towards our production capacity of 600 000 t/y . . . Just three and a half years ago, we produced our first copper,” Ivanhoe founder and executive co-chairperson Robert Friedland said on December 3.
