Kemerton strategic industrial area, about 17 km north-east of Bunbury, in Western Australia.

Project Description
Albemarle is advancing plans to double the capacity of Kemerton operations.

Phase 1 includes the construction, commissioning, ramp-up, and operations of two production trains capable of producing 50 000 t/y of lithium hydroxide  at full capacity.

Phase 2 – the Kemerton expansion project, which involves the construction of trains 3 and 4, and expansion of reagent, utility and noninfrastructure, will double production capacity to 100 000 t/y and also allow for future enhancement of product quality.

Trains 3 and 4 will create an additional 400 jobs.

Latest Developments
Albemarle has awarded a near A$200-million contract to engineering company Monadelphous Group as part of the expansion of the Kemerton lithium hydroxide plant.

The contract includes front-end pyromet structural, mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation works associated with two new lithium processing trains.
