Exploration activities under Kingrose Mining’s alliance agreements with BHP in Norway and Finland are in full swing, says Kingrose MD Fabian Baker.

These programmes have been designed with the combined expertise of Kingrose and BHP on a regional scale to identify numerous new target areas.

Field teams have mobilised to start mapping and geochemical sampling over high-priority copper and nickel camps identified during the Xplor programme in Finnmark and Central Finland.

Following on from the grant of 2 736 km2 of exploration licences in Finnmark, Northern Norway and identification of numerous copper/nickel/PGE targets, Kingsrose has designed systematic work programmes to further explore higher-priority camps over the coming months.

Kingsrose is targeting high-grade, mafic-ultramafic-hosted massive copper/nickel/PGE deposits in Finnmark, within palaeoproterozoic greenstone belts that represent the continuation of the Central Lapland Greenstone Belt that is host to Anglo American’s Sakatti copper/nickel/PGE project, Boliden’s Kevitsa nickel/copper/PGE mine, Agnico Eagle’s Kittilä gold mine and Rupert Resources’ recent Ikkari gold discovery.

In central Finland, the regional target generation programme conducted in the BHP Xplor programme led Kingrose to stake 993.1 km2 of exploration reservations in the Kotalahti nickel/copper belt.

The belt is a past-producing nickel district with a combined historical production of at least 36.2-million tonnes at 0.60% nickel, 0.25% copper and 0.03% cobalt.

Fourteen high-priority camps have been selected through the application of a mineral systems framework.

“It is an incredibly exciting and unique opportunity to be applying cutting-edge exploration programmes over such large mineral belts, the discovery potential is very compelling,” says Baker.
