Larger premises boosts stockholding
THE FIRST OF MANY The Motovario single-stage gearbox units which are being imported by Madacan will be the first of this range to be stocked in its new facility
Industrial electrical, electronic and mechanical product supplier Madacan Africa started operations last month at its new premises in the Northlands Business Park in Northriding, which is almost double the size of its previous facility in Kya Sands, both of which are in Gauteng.
“The new 944 m2 premises offers a larger storage area, is within a secured industrial park and is closer to our clients,” says Madacan Africa MD Kevin Brown.
The layout of the new facility enables the company to use the space available better, which will improve operational efficacy, he adds.
Madacan Africa is an official supplier of global power transmission component manufacturer Motovario’s range of gearboxes and motors, which are used by Madacan Africa’s clients and machine builders.
These clients design and manufacture screw conveyors, overland conveyors, mixers, agitators and low-speed pumps used in mining and industrial applications.
Madacan Africa’s new premises will accommodate the Motovario single-stage gearbox units it has ordered for the first time, which are expected to arrive in South Africa later this month.
“All our Motovario products are imported from the Motovario head office in Formigine, Italy,” says Brown.
He points out that Madacan Africa has noted a marked increase in market demand for the single-stage gearbox units from existing clients.
The single-stage gearbox units can be used for high-speed pumping but are predominantly used in slurry pumps and liquid pumping applications for water, oils and fuel, from which the company is expecting the greatest demand.
“We already supply to these clients various products from the Motovario range and believe that, in terms of our short-term goals, this product provides the perfect opportunity to do that.”
Brown adds that these goals include entering new markets and garnering a stronger foothold in the mining motors sector.
Built for Ease
Brown says when installing a Motovario geared motor to an installation, no additional technology or training of personnel is required.
“We attribute this ease of use to the modular concept of the Motovario product range, which boasts a 90% drop-in replacement compatibility.”
In addition, Madacan provides datasheets and three-dimensional step files for computer-aided design software integration, when quoting a client on a project.
According to Motovario, its products have one of the highest radial and axial ratings in their class, while their polyurethane epoxy coating makes them highly durable in harsh environments.
“Our Motovario range is also covered by a two-year manufacturer’s warranty,” enthuses Brown.
Madacan, which qualified as one of 40 global Motovario assembly centres in 2019, coupled with the geared motor’s modular design, offers significantly shorter time to market when supplying its products.
“We have the capacity to supply in-stock items in a matter of hours, depending on volume and current production figures.”
Brown adds that, as a long-term goal, Madacan aims to increase its product range and stockholding.
Madacan Africa is exploring the demand for larger units and is “aspiring to reach a point where it can offer 90 mm and 100 mm bevel gearboxes, and 90 mm parallel gearboxes to its clients.
Although there was a “lot of interest” in these units in the past, the space required to keep the stock was not available, but this challenge has now been mitigated.
“We are still relatively small players in the mining space, but as we grow, we intend to change that,” Brown concludes.
