Project Description
The Éléonore mine, in James Bay, Quebec, will be one of the largest underground gold mines in Canada, with life-of-mine gold production expected to average about 600 000 oz/y of gold. The project is expected to have a 15-year mine life.

The deposit remains open at depth and the potential for future exploration success creates further gold production upside.

Value
Total capital cost is expected to be about $1.4-billion to full production.

Duration
First production from the mine is expected late in 2014.

Latest Developments
SNC-Lavalin has been awarded a contract by Opinaca Mines, a company owned by Goldcorp, to provide project management, detailed engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) services.

SNC-Lavalin’s scope of work includes the engineering and design of the mineral processing plant, all plant infrastructure, tailings management facilities, a permanent camp, service buildings and facilities and an industrial water treatment plant.

Detailed engineering has started at SNC-Lavalin’s offices in Montreal, Vancouver and Quebec City. Construction activities have been initiated and are expected to finish by the end of the third quarter of 2014.
