(Virtual Showroom) MineSafe 2025 and Industry Awards Day which will be taking place at Emperors Palace, Johannesburg, South Africa from 19 – 21 November, will bring together South Africa’s mining industry leaders, regulators, unions, and stakeholders under the unifying theme: “Safe Mines, Healthy Lives and Sustainable Futures.” The event will serve as a national platform for advancing safety leadership, improving the well-being of mining communities, and embedding sustainability into every level of mining operations.
Organised by the Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM), in collaboration with the Mines Professional Associations’(MPAS), the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE), the Mine Health and Safety Council (MHSC), the Minerals Council South Africa, the South African National Institute of Rock Engineering and organised labour (SANIRE), and organised labour. MineSafe 2025 continues to be a vital forum for knowledge exchange and strategic dialogue aimed at achieving zero harm across Southern African mining.
The 2025 theme reflects the urgent need for the mining industry to prioritise health, safety, and sustainability as non-negotiable foundations for long-term resilience and economic contribution, especially in a country where mining remains a key driver of employment, exports, and development.
George van Greunen, MineSafe Chairperson and Vice President of the Association of Mine Managers of South Africa (AMMSA), said:
“As the country continues to navigate the demands of a modern minerals industry — from digital transformation to decarbonisation — ensuring the safety and well-being of mineworkers is not only a moral imperative, but a strategic one. Safe operations lead to healthier communities, more productive workforces, and more resilient mining businesses that can adapt and thrive in an evolving global landscape.
MineSafe 2025 is about turning intention into action — fostering leadership, innovation, and accountability across the sector to build safer mines, healthier lives, and a sustainable future for all.”
This year’s programme will feature focused sessions on safety culture, operational resilience, emerging technologies, and inclusive leadership. Delegates can expect high-impact case studies and best practices from across the continent, reinforcing the value of cross-sector collaboration in driving sustainable outcomes.
MineSafe remains a flagship event on the South African mining calendar—reaffirming the industry's collective commitment to protecting lives, improving workplace conditions, and fostering continuous innovation in pursuit of a zero-harm future.
