PERTH (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed Pacific Nickel Mines has started saprolite nickel ore mining at its Kolosori project, on the Solomon Islands.

“The first mining of saprolite ore for shipment is a significant milestone for the company and another step towards first revenue for the company from the Kolosori nickel project,” said CEO Geoff Hiller.

Pacific Nickel Mines is using $22-million in funding provided by major Glencore to develop the Kolosori project, which could produce 1.4-million tonnes a year of ore over a mine life of three years, and at a C1 cost of $31.08/t.

The ore being mined at Kolosori is being delivered to stockpile pads near the wharf in preparation for the first shipment of direct shipping ore, which is anticipated in November.
