Nevada Lithium identifies rubidium, cesium at Bonnie Claire

Canada’s Nevada Lithium Resources has reported the presence of significant rubidium and cesium mineralisation at its 100%-owned Bonnie Claire lithium project, in Nevada.

The company said on Wednesday that assays from its 2023 and 2024 drilling programme confirmed rubidium and cesium in the project’s Lower zone, with grades showing a strong positive correlation with both lithium and boron.

Significant concentrations of rubidium and cesium were also detected in the pregnant leach solution produced during recent metallurgical testwork, suggesting potential for recovery alongside lithium and boron in the project’s flowsheet.

“These elements represent the potential to increase the significant boron by-product revenue stream identified in our recently released PEA,” said CEO Stephen Rentschler. He added that Bonnie Claire’s 61-year mine life and planned processing rate of nearly three-million tonnes of ore a year positioned the project to make “a substantial contribution to the US domestic supply of critical minerals”.

The US Department of the Interior has included rubidium and cesium in its draft 2025 Critical Minerals List. Both are used in specialist applications, including atomic clocks, cancer therapy, photoelectric cells, specialty glass, and drilling fluids.

Nevada Lithium said it would advance testwork to determine the economics of rubidium and cesium recovery, while continuing to optimise the lithium flowsheet.
