Norman Creek access project.

Location
Amrun bauxite mine on Queensland’s Cape York peninsula, in Australia.

Project Owner/s
Diversified miner Rio Tinto.

Project Description
The project will allow for mining of the Norman Creek region of Amrun, which holds about half of the currently declared Amrun bauxite ore reserves of 978-million tonnes.

Potential Job Creation
The project will maintain jobs in the region until at least the middle of this century.

Net Present Value/Internal Rate of Return
Not stated.

Capital Expenditure
Rio Tinto approved investment of $180-million in August 2025.

Planned Start/End Date
First production is targeted for 2027, with full construction expected to be completed in 2028.

Latest Developments
Construction is under way on key infrastructure, including a 19 km haul road, camp accommodation and a communications tower.
