Municipal electricity distributors are facing a perfect storm of rising wholesale electricity tariffs, falling demand from affluent households and businesses that have invested in rooftop generation, aging network infrastructure, skills shortages, electricity theft and a revenue model that does not fully reflect network and service costs. An urgent intervention is required, or power disruptions will continue despite the recent stabilisation of generation.
