ASX- and JSE-listed Orion Minerals has appointed experienced international mining executive Kevin Moxham as COO.

Moxham is a registered professional engineer with 40 years of experience in mining, engineering and project management, and is said to have a strong record leading the successful modernisation and mechanisation of mines in South Africa and developing several large-scale greenfield projects, both openpit and underground, in challenging political, technical and socioeconomic environments across Africa.

He has extensive experience in the management of base metal mining operations, particularly in the development, construction and operational ramp-up of new mines, implementing modern best practice and driving operational excellence, while maintaining a good health and safety record, the company points out.

The appointment comes at a pivotal time for Orion, as it nears completion of the definitive feasibility studies for its two emerging production hubs in South Africa’s Northern Cape region – the Prieska copper/zinc project and the Okiep copper project – and prepares to make the transition from explorer to mine developer.
