PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Gold miner Northern Star Resources has temporarily halted production at its Pogo mine, in Alaska, to undertake repairs on the ball mill motor.

The ASX-listed miner on Wednesday said that towards the end of a routine mill shutdown that started last week, the team discovered damage to the ball mill motor which tripped during restart.

Repair work to the ball mill motor is expected to take up to six weeks. Northern Star told shareholders that cost management initiatives have been introduced and team efforts have been prioritised towards the mill repair so that gold production at Pogo could safely resume as soon as possible.

As a result of this unplanned motor repair, Pogo production is likely to be impacted by between 20 000 oz and 40 000 oz in 2023.

Northern Star’s group production guidance for the full year remains unchanged.
