Seriti donates R6.5m worth of vehicles to Emalahleni SAPS
Coal mining company Seriti Resources’ Seriti Community Trust has handed over ten new vehicles worth R6.5-million to the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Emalahleni, Mpumalanga.
The vehicles are fully branded and furbished with the necessary equipment, such as radios, cameras, sirens, health and safety equipment, along with full service plans and warranties.
The Seriti Community Trust was established by Seriti Resources to help provide benefits to host communities and employees through community consultative forums which focus on activities and projects aimed at improving access to healthcare, education, housing and basic services.
“Visible policing is an effective deterrent to criminality in communities. Safer communities will translate into a mining environment that is safe, stable, and sustainable, and will ensure investment not only in our mining operations but also in local businesses,” Seriti CEO Mike Teke said on January 23.
He added that the investment in SAPS vehicles would benefit host communities in Emalahleni, Kriel, Morgenzon, Ogies, Phola and Vosman.
Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC VR Shongwe joined Seriti executives at the handover event.
“We thank you Seriti for prioritising us as Mpumalanga. There are very few companies who consider safety and security as a key focus area,” he said.
“The donation will surely improve the work of SAPS in preventing and combatting anything that may threaten the safety and security of the community,” SAPS Mpumalanga provincial commissioner and lieutenant general Semakaleng Daphney Manamela added.
