Project Description
The project will have a flow rate of up to 22 700 ℓ a minute and capacity to produce up to one-million pounds of triuranium octoxide a year.
The satellite plant will comprise ion-exchange (IX), wastewater and groundwater restoration circuits. The IX resin at Shirley Basin will be loaded with uranium from the mine and shipped to UR-Energy’s operating Lost Creek in situ recovery facility for processing before being recycled back into operations at Shirley Basin.

Initial facility capital costs are estimated at $24.4-million. Pre-operational wellfield development costs are estimated at $16.3-million.
Planned Start/End Date
The estimated time to finalise designs, order materials and build the satellite plant and the initial wellfield recovery area is about 24 months.
Latest Developments
Work has started on long-lead items, including detailed engineering and additional geological pattern planning for the wellfield.
Planning has been completed and fieldwork has started on the monitor well ring for the first mine unit, with plans to install about 120 wells in the second and third quarters of this year. This installation will allow for hydrologic testing and baseline water quality analyses to proceed before the start of installation of production patterns in mid-2025.
Importantly, the bid process and award for fabrication of IX columns have been completed. This procurement represents one of the longest lead items in the facility.
