Strategic copper and gold alliance for Tennant Creek

Australian companies Emmerson Resources, CuFe and Tennant Minerals on Monday announced the formation of a strategic alliance to collaborate on their copper, gold and critical metals development opportunities in the Tennant Creek region of the Northern Territory.

The alliance acknowledges the challenges associated with independently developing the historically high-grade deposits in Tennant Creek. By pooling resources and expertise, the companies seek to explore larger and more economically viable development options. This approach is expected to transform the scale of potential developments, benefiting both the companies involved and the local community.

Collectively, the alliance controls mineral resources totalling 7.3-million tonnes at 0.6 g/t gold and 1.7% copper, translating to about 145 000 oz of gold and 127 000 t of copper. Recent high-grade discoveries, including Tennant Mineral’s Bluebird project, have yielded promising results such as intersections of up to 61.8 m at 2.3% copper and 0.4 g/t gold, as well as significant findings from Emmerson’s Jasper Hills and Hermitage prospects.

The alliance plans to implement a shared processing facility, reminiscent of the historical operations in the Tennant Creek Mineral Field (TCMF), which used a "hub and spoke" model to centralise processing across multiple high-grade mines.

As a preliminary step, the alliance has initiated a review of existing data to inform an initial scoping study, aiming to swiftly transition to a prefeasibility study. The partners are optimistic about the potential outcomes of this collaborative effort.

With an opportunity for establishing a dedicated multi-user copper and associated metals facility in the region, this alliance positions itself independently of the carbon-in-leach gold-only facility currently being constructed by Emmerson’s joint venture partner, TCMG.
