The cost of illegal mining is estimated to be over R70 billion annually in gold alone and resulting in huge losses of revenue for both government and the mining sector.

Other than the financial impact, the safety and security of communities and the core of our country is under attack, being stripped of its resources, therefore, Pinpoint Stewards will be hosting the 3rd Annual Mine Security Conference that takes place on 19-20 June, Indaba Hotel, Johannesburg. The two-day conference will focus on protecting mineral resources & infrastructure by applying stronger mine security measures through intelligence sharing.

Organiser of the conference Ankia Roux said: “There is no doubt that a vested and corrupt interest, behind the scenes, are the main drivers responsible for stripping SA of its mineral resources.  Improving the political-will backed with dedicated enforcement resources will be the only way to manage and stop the deteriorating effects threatening the sustainability of South Africa’s mining sector over time. Deconstructing this further, Roux says, “the conference aims to bring together all stakeholders to work hand-in-glove to ensure for swift action ito intelligence sharing, arrests at the top and effective prosecutions”.

This year’s conference will address a multitude of critical topics with industry speakers and experts taking to the podium from:  Sibanye-Stillwater Anglo American Platinum Security, Impala Platinum, Pan African Resources, Harmony Gold Mining, Investigation Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) – Gauteng and North West, National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Mining Loss and Risk Mitigator, and an Independent Mining Security And Law Enforcement Professional.

The conference will tackle hard hitting topics such as: Organised crime in South Africa and the theft of PGMS, securitization efforts of industries, financial intelligence gathering to strengthen investigations and prosecutions etc.  Stakeholder collaboration and intelligence sharing, will be the main focus of the conference with discussions being sparked during an open forum and panel discussion to find urgent solutions as a united front.

Latest technology and security enablers will be exhibited in finding fit-for-purpose solutions.  To further encourage engagement, a “Mine Security Network SA” group was created by the organisers on LinkedIn as action point from last year’s conference.  It is a closed group and participants will be included on request only with linked interests.

Register and pay before 31 March for early bird discount.  To participate or to receive a full conference brochure contact Pinpoint Stewards on email info@pinpointstewards.co.za
