Volspruit platinum group metals (PGMs) project.

Location
On the southern end of the northern limb of the Bushveld Complex, about 16 km south of Mokopane, in Limpopo, South Africa.

Low-cost PGMs producer Sylvania Platinum.

Project Description
A scoping study has suggested the development of the North and South pits at a production rate of 1.8-million tonnes a year over a 14-year mine life.

About 65% of the ore is located within the North pit, with the remainder in the South.

Net Present Value/Internal Rate of Return
The scoping study estimates a pretax net present value of R1.2-billion at a 12% discount rate and an internal rate of return of 17%, with a payback of six years.

Capital Expenditure
Peak funding is estimated at R4.3-billion.

Latest Developments
Following the positive scoping study published in the quarter to September 30, 2024, work continues to assess new technologies that might assist in upgrading the feed grade for the project. 

A report on the processing testwork is expected in the third quarter of 2025. The outcomes of these assessments will assist in determining how best to derive further value from the Volspruit project. 

Specialist studies required by the regulators are being finalised to allow for the submission of the water-use licence application during the third quarter of 2025. 

The final environmental-impact assessment (EIA) report and associated environmental management programme for the amendment of the EIA was submitted at the end of the first quarter of 2025. A decision from the competent authority is expected in the third quarter of the 2025 financial year.
