Gold miners Westgold Resources and New Murchison Gold have dismissed takeover speculation, following a report of renewed corporate interest in Western Australia's Murchison gold district.

The article, which appeared in the West Australian, states that Westgold has made two separate takeover approaches to entities in the Murchison region, mentioning New Murchison Gold as one of them.

In separate statements on Monday, both companies acknowledged ongoing engagement but denied that any formal acquisition offers had been made.

ASX-listed New Murchison confirmed that while it had held “various commercial and broader business” discussions with ASX- and TSX-listed Westgold over the years – including a 2024 strategic alliance and ore purchase agreement tied to its Crown Prince project –  no takeover offer had been received.

“The company meets frequently with Westgold in relation to operational matters . . . [but] confirms it has not received any takeover offer from Westgold as speculated in the media,” New Murchison said, adding that it would disclose any material agreement in line with regulatory obligations.

Westgold, for its part, also addressed the article, merely noting recent media speculation about “potential corporate activity in the Murchison”.
