Name of the Project
15-Mile and Beaver Dam projects.

Location
Trafalgar and Marinette respectively, in Nova Scotia, Canada.

Project Owner/s
St Barbara Limited.

Project Description
The 15-Mile and Beaver Dam openpits will be mined using a conventional drill, blast and haul setup.

There are four openpits at 15-Mile – Egerton-Maclean, Plenty, Hudson and 149 – and one openpit at Beaver Dam.

The updated prefeasibility study (PFS) envisages average production of 74 000 oz/y of gold over the 11.1-year mine life. Total average recovered gold is estimated at 815 000 oz. The peak mining rate will be 10.2-million tonnes a year over the life-of-mine (LoM). A total of 22.9-million tonnes of ore will be mined at an average grade of 1.1 g/t, with a total of 70.2-million tonnes of waste mined.

Primary production equipment includes 144 mm down the hole hammer, or DTH, production drills, 4.5 m3 bucket production excavators and 64 t payload off-highway mining trucks. Ore stockpile rehandling at 15-Mile is minimal, with two small run-of-mine stockpiles for storing mill feed and peak inventory of 700 000 t envisaged.

Potential Job Creation
More than 1 000 direct jobs in construction and more than 300 direct jobs in the operating phase are expected.

Net Present Value/Internal Rate of Return
The project has a pretax net present value, at a 5% discount rate, of C$553-million (A$630-million) and internal rate of return of 42.7% using a long-term gold price of $2 000/oz. Pretax payback is estimated at 2.2 years.

Capital Expenditure
Initial capital is estimated at C$194-million (A$222-million). Capital includes mine preproduction, mine fleet, processing and infrastructure. An additional capital cost of C$43-million will be incurred in Year 5 of the LoM to start the 450 000 oz Beaver Dam satellite pit development.

Planned Start/End Date
Not stated.

Latest Developments
None stated.

Key Contracts, Suppliers and Consultants
Ausenco Engineering Canada (PFS); and Moose Mountain Technical Services (mine design aspects of the PFS).
