A new dawn for African energy
Solar Power Africa launches with dynamic programme designed to empower Africa’s Energy Future
Without solar and storage we cannot ensure a sustainable and secure energy system across Africa, that’s the warning from organisers of the forthcoming 3rd annual Solar Power Africa conference.
A dynamic programme of insightful and engaging plenaries, keynote speeches and breakaway sessions was launched this week, which has been carefully curated to ensure attendees are empowered to deliver on Africa’s solar potential.
The conference will take place from 7-9 February 2024 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre and attendees and exhibitors are expected from across Africa as well as international participants keen to capitalise on the networking opportunities presented.
“Africa is blessed with an abundance of sunshine. We know that we have the potential to tap into the continent’s incredible capacity to generate solar power. And while significant progress has been made both at an individual household level as well as at the utility scale, there is more that needs to be done if we are to give every African access to cheap, secure and sustainable energy,” said Michael Dehn, Managing Director of Messe Frankfurt SA.
“Solar offers us the chance to not only meet Africa’s growing energy demands but also mitigate the adverse effects of climate change and contribute to global efforts in combating global warming.
“One of the biggest obstacles to date in harnessing solar and integrating it to the grid has been its intermittent nature. However, with the developments in storage technologies and solutions, the industry has been able to overcome these barriers. And over the course of the conference, attendees will see and hear how the incredible advances in storage technologies are being innovatively leveraged to deliver solar to the grid.”
The theme for Solar Power Africa 2024 is Empowering Africa's Energy Future: Solar and Storage Solutions for Sustainable Development and the conference will explore and unpack the future of solar and storage, chart a path to sustainable development and look at opportunities to secure investment and encourage collaborations that will deliver on Africa’s solar promise.
Over the course of the 3 day conference and exhibition attendees will have the opportunity to attend 4 plenary sessions, 4 keynote addresses, and 14 specialised breakaway sessions and hear from more than 80 expert speakers from across the energy industry.
Organised by Messe Frankfurt, Solar Power Africa is presented in partnership with RE+ Events (formerly Solar Power Events), and fully endorsed by the South Africa Energy Storage Association(SAESA), Circular Energy, the African Solar Industry Association (AFSIA) and Green Cape.
Solar Power Africa is an event dedicated solely to Solar Power and Energy storage and is expected to attract over 80 exhibitors operating in this dynamic market. Solar Power Africa is also pleased to announce the following media partners for the event: ESI Africa, Engineering News, South African Business Integrator, SA Building Review, and SA Profile.
