Adriatic appoints former BHP exec as MD and CEO
ASX- and LSE-listed Adriatic Metals has appointed Laura Tyler, a former BHP executive, as MD and CEO. This marks a new chapter for the company as it seeks to strengthen its position as a leading mining entity in Europe.
Tyler, who joined the Adriatic board as a nonexecutive director on July 1, 2024, stepped in as interim CEO on August 9. Her appointment comes after an extensive search for a new leader.
Chairperson Michael Rawlinson welcomed Tyler's appointment. "The board has undertaken an extensive search for Adriatic’s next leader and is pleased to announce her appointment as the board’s unanimous choice. Laura has an abundance of experience in underground, polymetallic mining operations and executive leadership roles over a 35-year career."
During her time as interim CEO, Tyler demonstrated the skills and vision necessary to guide the Vares silver operation, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, toward its full potential, Rawlinson noted.
“Having spent the last two months working on site and living in Sarajevo, I understand the extraordinary potential of the Vares Silver Operation, which is set to become a multi-generational source of critical metals in the heart of Europe," she said.
Tyler’s extensive background in the mining sector, particularly her 20 years at BHP, where she served as the inaugural chief technology officer, makes her uniquely qualified for this role. Her expertise in technical, technological and safety applications in mining aligns perfectly with Adriatic’s goals of sustainable and modern mining practices.
Adriatic Metals is currently advancing its Vares project, along with the Raska zinc/silver project in Serbia.
