Assore International Holdings Limited (AHIL) has increased its stake in gemstone miner Gemfields to 26.17%.

This followed the sale by Dr Christo Wiese and his family and associates of about 154.66-million shares in Gemfields.

Wiese, who this week resigned from the company's board as nonexecutive director, retains about 5.73-million Gemfields shares, which equates to about 0.49% of Gemfields' shares in issue.

AHIL now holds 305.81-million Gemfields shares.

At the start of September, AHIL had held only 5% of Gemfields' shares. It has now become the gemstone miner's largest shareholder.
