Creamer Media’s ‘Projects in Progress 2025’ report provides an overview of South Africa’s economic development as reflected through major infrastructure projects across energy, transport, water and mining. Key initiatives include the Battery Energy Storage Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme, the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme, and large-scale industrial partnerships such as Sasol and Air Liquide’s renewable-energy roll-out. Transport and logistics projects, notably the Msikaba Bridge on the N2 Wild Coast Toll Road and Transnet’s planned Boegoebaai port and rail development, underscore efforts to strengthen regional connectivity, while major water schemes such as the Olifants Management Model Programme and Moretele North Bulk Water Supply Scheme aim to bolster water security.

In mining, expansion projects across coal, gold, diamonds, iron-ore and platinum group metals highlight continued investment in sustaining and diversifying production. South Africa’s developments are complemented by projects elsewhere on the continent, reinforcing Africa’s growing significance in global supply chains.

The information in this report is correct as of September 2025.

This report is a summary of information published in Engineering News & Mining Weekly, as well as information available in the public domain over the past 12 months. It does not purport to provide analysis of market trends.
