Alkane largely debt-free as it repays A$45m facility

Australia’s Alkane Resources said on Monday it had fully repaid a A$45-million project finance facility used to expand its Tomingley gold operations in New South Wales, leaving the miner largely debt free.

The repayment to Macquarie was made from the company’s cash reserves, with only standard equipment financing remaining on its balance sheet, the gold miner said.

“The repayment of the A$45-million outstanding balance on our debt facility reflects Alkane’s financial flexibility following the completion of the merger,” MD and CEO Nic Earner said in a statement.

He added that the move strengthened the company’s balance sheet and provided greater flexibility to pursue organic and external growth opportunities while maintaining a strong working capital position.

Alkane operates the Tomingley gold mine, about 50 km south-west of Dubbo, and also holds exploration and development interests in the region.
