TSX-V- and JSE-listed Alphamin Resources has advised that it will temporarily cease mining at the Bisie tin mine, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), amid conflict in the country.

Insurgent militant groups having advanced westward in the direction of the mine site on March 9, it reports.

The company says the safety of its employees and contractors remains its top priority and cannot be assured while the conflict persists in the region.

Only essential personnel remain for the care, maintenance and security of the property.

Alphamin confirms that peace talks between the governments of the DRC and Rwanda are due to take place in Angola on March 18, which the company will closely monitor before moving personnel back on site.

The company's share price on the JSE fell by 25% on the news.
