Applied Mineral Technologies
Established in 2001, South African materials handling systems and processing plants construction company Applied Mineral Technologies (Amtec) has come a long way from being a consultancy to a fully fledged industrial construction company.
Amtec specialises in civil, structural, mechanical, piping and plate- work (CSMPP) projects in the coal, diamonds, iron-ore, metal-from-slag, tantalite, platinum, gold and pulp industries.
With the growth of the company over the last 17 years, Amtec has developed specific specialised divisions within the structure of the company.
“We can now proudly say we have specialists dealing exclusively in the different fields of CSMPP,” states Amtec.
Amtec has become especially proficient in brownfield and shutdown construction activities and has successfully undertaken many difficult projects in the industry. The company’s expertise in this field is highly sought after and Amtec has received commendations from its clients and peers.
The company offers its services to a number of engineering, procurement and construction management companies.
Amtec’s piping division has also become involved in water reclamation projects, whereby mine water is reprocessed and purified through reverse osmosis.
Amtec recognises the great demand for high quality and is dedicated to the implementation and delivery of a sound quality management system that can be adapted to the quality requirements of its customers.
The goal of Amtec’s health, safety, environment and community (HSEC) programme and policies is to achieve “’no injuries and no damage” on all its project sites.
Amtec’s HSEC policy is so designed to incorporate client safety protocols into its projects. Owing to the diversity of its client base, the company has become proficient in the implementation of all relevant legal requirements, albeit in South Africa or outside its borders. Amtec prides itself in its membership of the South African Institute of Occupational Safety and Health.
The company’s staff complement is currently about 150 people, with employees ranging from construction assistants to professional engineers. Based in Witbank, Mpumalanga, Amtec has satellite offices in Johannesburg and Cape Town, and in Freetown, in Sierra Leone.
