At least 20 people died when a bus burst into flames after colliding with a truck head-on in Limpopo on Sunday afternoon. The accident occurred on the R572, and the bus is understood to have been travelling from Musina, transporting workers to the Venetia Diamond Mine near Alldays.

Social media reports claimed the bus had collided head-on with a truck, but this has not been confirmed by the authorities.

Limpopo Transport and Community Safety MEC Florence Radzilani said: "Further updates will be provided when the SAPS [has] completed investigating."

In a video circulating on social media, purportedly showing the accident scene, the bus is on fire and several bodies can be seen laying on grass alongside the road.

A burning tyre is among the bodies, several metres away from the bus. The bus appears to have collided head-on with another vehicle.

Radzilani is expected to visit the area on Monday to "ascertain facts around the accident" and visit those who were hospitalised as a result of the accident. She will be joined by Musina Local Municipality Mayor Godfrey Mawela and senior management of the mine.
