ASX-listed Ausgold is gearing up to start a major new gold drilling programme at its 3.04-million-ounce Katanning gold project (KGP) in Western Australia.

The multi-pronged drilling campaign, comprising about 19 000 m of reverse circulation drilling, is scheduled to start in October.

The drilling campaign will have the dual focus of derisking the project and building resource potential regionally, explains MD Matthew Greentree.

Ausgold has a 4 300 km2 tenure position in the Katanning Greenstone Belt, located in the south-west portion of the Yilgarn Craton.

“New drilling will focus on derisking initial mining areas before moving on to target direct extensions to the KGP, as well as greenstone belts along regionally significant structures, including targets along 130 km of strike length along the Stanley Trend.

“The region is largely under-explored and the company sees clear opportunities to leverage its technical expertise and geological understanding to build a regional resource footprint alongside the growing resource base at the KGP, while maintaining its primary focus on developing a large scale mining operation,” said Greentree.

Part of the funding from Ausgold’s recent A$28-million equity funding was specifically earmarked for exploration.
