Battery Electric aiming to advance electrification of mining vehicles
Battery Electric engineering manager Marnus Marais speaks to Creamer Media at this year's Electra Mining.
Electronics manufacturer Battery Electric is aiming to further advance the electrification of mining vehicles, the optimization of battery sizing and the charging of electric vehicles.
The company intends to achieve this through the continued provision of its complete system solution, which includes full support from design to after sales, including repair and ample availability of spares.
Engineering manager Marnus Marais explains that the approach is critical to advancing progress that has been made in recovering to pre-pandemic economic activity levels, especially considering that the industry is still experiencing electronic component shortages.
“It’s not just owing to Covid, there are quite a few global factors that play a role in the supply chain,” he admits.
However, he notes that Battery Electric, in particular, is in a “fortunate position” as the company’s business grew during the pandemic, largely owing to ongoing research and development, and strategic planning.
“We are excited for the future,” Marais says.
Battery Electric provides diesel locomotive conversions, electric utility vehicles, AC and DC motor controllers, proximity detection systems, battery chargers, card readers and light-emitting diode lighting.
Services, Marais adds, include having technicians in the field for after-sales commissioning, maintenance and support – a critical service to provide when one largely focuses on mining vehicles that transport ore.
