Brockman Syncline 1 (BS1) mine project.

Location
Brockman region in the West Pilbara of Western Australia.

Project Description
The BS1 project will extend the life of the Brockman region sustaining production from Rio Tinto’s iron-ore operations.

BS1 is one of a series of replacement projects, with a total yearly capacity of 130-million tonnes of iron-ore.

The project includes a new primary crusher and overland conveyor, a nonprocess infrastructure precinct and a temporary camp for construction workers.

Potential Job Creation
About 1 000 jobs will be created during construction. Once operational, BS1 will sustain a workforce of about 600.

Net Present Value/Internal Rate of Return
No details provided.

Capital Expenditure
$1.8-billion.

Planned Start/End Date
First ore is scheduled for 2027, having previously been anticipated in 2028.

Latest Developments
NRW Civil & Mining, a division of ASX-listed NRW Holdings, has been awarded a A$167-million contract by Rio Tinto for work at BS1 mine.

NRW will be responsible for the construction of earthworks, roadworks and drainage associated with the primary crusher, the overland conveyor and nonprocess infrastructure, together with construction of haul and access roads, as well as concrete structures.

The scope includes drill-and-blast, along with the supply and construction of the mechanically stabilised earth run-of-mine wall, two precast concrete overpass tunnels and in situ concrete foundations for the primary crusher.

The contract is scheduled to start immediately, with a peak workforce of more than 300 people.
