PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Coal miner New Hope lost 20 354 working hours during the three months to April, owing to severe weather conditions and Covid-related labour shortages at its 80%-held Bengalla operations, in New South Wales.

New Hope on Thursday reported that coal production during the three months to April had declined by 27.7%, to 1 924 t, compared with the 2 660 t in the quarter ended January. In the year to date, coal production fell 23.9%, from 10 030 t to 7 628 t, compared with the previous corresponding period.

Saleable coal production in the year was down 21.3%, from 2 046 t to 1 610 t during the three months to April, and down 11.6% in the year to date, while coal sales for the quarter were down 26.7%, from 2 516 t to 1 845 t, and by 5.4% in the year to date, from 7 382 t to 6 983 t.

The ASX-listed company has now downwardly adjusted its full-year expectations by 2.8%, from the previous 10 818 t to 10 523 t, while sales expectations have increased by 4% for the full year, from 9 085 t to 9 461 t.
