Debswana clarifies yearly maintenance at Orapa No 2 plant, not closure
Debswana Diamond Company has clarified that the Orapa No 2 processing plant is undergoing yearly scheduled maintenance during May and has not ceased operations.
The planned shutdown is a routine operational process to ensure the plant remains efficient and reliable.
Debswana released this statement in response to reports that the operation has been stopped.
The company earlier this year approved a set of strategic measures in response to ongoing market conditions, including the rationalisation of production by placing the tailings treatment facilities at the Letlhakane and Jwaneng mines under long-term asset preservation.
The company urges contractors and other stakeholders to rely on official communication channels and engagements, rather than media reports, for business updates to avoid confusion.
Debswana, a joint venture between the government of Botswana and diamond miner De Beers, operates four diamond mines in Orapa, Letlhakane, Damtshaa and Jwaneng, all in Botswana.
