Equipping to tackle waste management complexities

MINE WATER MANAGEMENT Through SUEZ, EnviroServ has the capacity to aid mining customers with their mine water challenges
DELIVERING SOLUTIONS EnviroServ remains dedicated to delivering an array of waste management solutions tailored to the needs of various sectors, including the mining industry
Waste management is a complex issue in the sub-Saharan African (SSA) mining industry. As a subsidiary of water and waste management expert SUEZ, environmental company EnviroServ is geared to effectively tackle this challenging task.
With over 46 years of experience in shaping the future of waste management, EnviroServ remains dedicated to delivering an array of waste management solutions tailored to the needs of various sectors, including that of the mining industry.
Through SUEZ, EnviroServ has the capacity to aid mining customers with their mine water challenges. Mine water, also referred to as acid mine drainage water, is caused by rain. It has proven to be rich in metals, dissolved organics and inorganics. Often, the pH is extremely low, depending on the type of mining activity conducted. It can be particularly toxic to the environment and humans, and needs to be adequately treated. Luckily, mines have contaminated stormwater dams, and when this water is acidic, it can be treated by neutralising it, depending on the chemical constituents within the mine.
“With our extensive resources, solid safety records and a steadfast commitment to environmental stewardship, we are uniquely positioned to assist mining operations in achieving their waste management goals effectively,” says EnviroServ commercial inland senior GM Ryan van Heerden.
“With a focus on sustainability and cost-effectiveness, we are proud to support mining companies in their journey towards more responsible environmental practices. Our commitment to quality customer service, stringent safety protocols and innovative waste management solutions positions us as the partner of choice for the mining sector.”
EnviroServ’s personnel are fit, undergo the necessary medical examinations and inductions, and are equipped with personal protective equipment. The suitability of the fleet and equipment is also assessed. Additionally, the EnviroServ team adheres to the required fatality risk control protocol and standard operating procedures mandated by mines.
As EnviroServ continues to innovate and elevate its services, the company invites mining companies to partner with it.
“Together, we can navigate the evolving challenges of waste management and craft sustainable solutions that support operational efficiency and environmental integrity,” states Van Heerden.
EnviroServ maintains all necessary permits and licences, ensuring compliance across their fleet and operations. Each interaction with a customer is underpinned by the company’s commitment to quality control, concludes Van Heerden.
