Envusa extends platform to more hard-to-abate sectors as 520 MW Koruson 2 moves towards operation

Independent power producer (IPP) and licensed trader Envusa Energy reports that its 520 MW Koruson 2 project cluster is nearing commercial operation – a milestone that Envusa says will position it to support large Southern African companies striving for carbon neutrality, including those in hard-to-abate sectors.
The 50/50 JV between EDF Renewables and Anglo American is building a 240 MW solar PV facility and two 140 MW wind projects in the Eastern and Northern Cape provinces.
The projects are expected to enter into commercial operation in 2026, with the electricity to be wheeled through the Eskom grid and purchased by the South African mining and processing operations of Anglo American, which has made a commitment to be carbon-neutral by 2040.
Acting CEO Nicole Mason reports that Envusa Energy will now extend the platform to other organisations in Southern Africa, especially those in the hard-to-abate sectors of mining, steel, and cement.
Envusa says it is pursuing a portfolio-based strategy that allows for partnership and collaboration between the IPP and the offtaker.
The company has plans to develop between 3 GW and 5 GW of wind, solar, and battery storage assets across multiple locations and aggregate the electricity generated to supply a portfolio of clients.
“This structure doesn’t just meet power demands, it mitigates risk and enables cross collateralisation at a portfolio level,” says Mason.
“Our competitive advantage lies in creating a balanced and complementary energy mix that brings us closer to achieving carbon-neutral electricity supply,” she adds.
