ASX-listed Fortescue has appointed Yasmin Broughton to its board as a nonexecutive director, effective July 1, as the company continues its transition towards a green energy and technology-focused future.

Broughton brings more than 25 years of executive and nonexecutive experience in the mining and energy sectors. She currently serves on the boards of Greatland Gold, Wright Prospecting and Synergy, Western Australia’s largest energy generator and retailer.

A qualified lawyer with a background in mergers and acquisitions, finance, risk management and corporate governance, Broughton holds a Bachelor of Commerce with double majors in Corporate Law and Management and a postgraduate degree in law.

“I am excited to join Fortescue at this transformational time in the company’s journey towards the decarbonisation of its operations and its growth into a green technology, energy, and metals company,” said Broughton. “I look forward to leveraging my corporate and commercial experience in resources and energy markets and my passion for sustainable practices to contribute to the company’s growth strategy and deliver value to its shareholders.”

Fortescue executive chairperson Dr Andrew Forrest welcomed the appointment, noting Broughton’s extensive legal and commercial credentials.
