GMIN to start early works at Oko West
TSX-listed G Mining Ventures (GMIN) has received an interim environmental permit (IEP) for the Oko West gold project from Guyana's Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
This is in response to the company’s environmental impact assessment and environmental impact statement – jointly ESIA – submissions made in November.
The IEP is valid for one year and, together with the ‘No Objection’ letter received from the Guyana Forestry Commission, GMIN says it has fulfilled the requirements to initiate early works construction activities.
The company notes that it intends to advance the early works activities in the first half of 2025.
This includes a barge landing facility; main access road and internal roads; an airstrip; a permanent camp facility; water and sewage treatment plants; and a power generation and communication tower.
"The approval of the IEP represents an important step in reaching a construction decision for the Oko West project.
“The receipt of this permit supports a collaborative engagement between Guyana's EPA, Forestry Commission and nearby communities in Region 7 ensuring alignment with GMIN's mine development activities in country,” says GMIN president and CEO Louis-Pierre Gignac.
“We are excited to have the opportunity to commence early works activities ahead of schedule and to grow the local team in preparation for the main construction phase.”
GMIN notes that the EPA will reach a decision with respect to the granting of the final environmental permit for Oko West following a 60-day comment period, EPA review of the submission, disclosure meetings and publication of the final ESIA report.
Looking ahead, additional development catalysts at Oko West include the start of early works in the first quarter; feasibility study publication in the second quarter; full permit in the second quarter; formal construction decision in the second half of the year; continuation of detailed engineering; and greenfield and brownfield exploration.
